Experienced Seamstress (Full-Time Contract, Part-Time hours may be considered)
Monday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm (additional hours will be available in busy periods) family friendly employer
Happy to consider some hours working from home if candidate has correct machines and logistics.
Salary: Dependant on experience
Interview date: by appointment only - short sewing test in Bedford studio on an industrial overlocker, cover stitch machine and bar tacking machine. Must be proficient in at least two or all three machines and training can be given.

Planet Mermaid is a major online retailer of mermaid swimwear, accessories and tails with a global customer base across Europe, Asia and Australia. We are looking for an experienced seamstress who will provide productional support to the business.

Key Responsibilities
- To Interpret bundle making processes and to check own work and others
- To fully understand Industrial overlockers, cover stitch and bar tacking machines and the threading systems
- To work with stretch fabrics
- To keep machines clean and workspace free of hazards
- To cut make and trim using hand cutting machines (occasional work with training)
- To use patterns and assist with bulk cutting
- To support the cover machinist in finishing time-sensitive products/projects
- To organise samples and designs for the Director
- To store fabric safely and efficiently
- To assist in maintaining stock levels of threads, machine parts, elastics and any other components for making
- To communicate effectively, safely and professionally in all aspects of production
- To assist with light packing and organising of finished stock
- To assist with distribution and stock taking of cut/finished raw stock into correct bundles
Person Specification
Essential
- Significant sewing experience in a fast-paced environment is essential with a proven track record of using your own initiative on a regular basis
- Excellent communication and production skills
- Good level of English. Written and spoken (however we can support this if English is not your first language)
- Significant over-locker experience with the cutting of the bulk fabric
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise own workload, manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently without supervision
Desirable
- Experience of working in swimwear or online fashion retail business
- Ability to speak Serbo/Croate
- Experience of supporting projects/events
- Experience of using a cover stitch machine and bar tacking
- Design, pattern cutting experience
- Self-starter with project work
