Position Summary
The Sr. Rare Disease Medical Manager (RD M.M.). position will provide scientific and medical leadership in establishing an in depth understanding of the medical landscape in relation to relevant therapeutic areas and Rare Disease (Alexion) products and developing and implementing long-term strategy and building enduring Medical Affairs practices and infrastructure in line with overall Alexion, Rare Diseases strategy. The Sr. RD M.M position (related therapeutic areas as Hematology, Nephrology, Neurology & Metabolics), will provide strategic insight and input to Alexion, Rare Diseases activities in these disease areas and will provide support to all functions within the Andean Cluster to ensure achievement of local objectives and to foster the Alexion Global Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care. The Sr. RD M.M. combines strong business acumen and high clinical expertise and serves as a peer-to-peer liaison internally and externally.
The Sr RD M.M. must report in dotted line to the Andean Cluster Medical Director and be part of the medical affairs Andean Cluster/Az Team.
Territories for Andean Cluster are Colombia, Perú, Ecuador
Job Duties & Responsibilities in RDBU:
- Collaborate cross-functionally on the construction of RD Strategic Diseases Plans
- Develop and implement local Tactical Medical Affairs Plans and guarantee that activities are being executed accordingly
- Ensure a close working relationship with all functions in Andean Cluster RD Business Unit, including commercial operations, sales and marketing teams and AZ teams.
- Provide medical input direction to the development of impactful scientific and medical education messages and materials
- Review and approve promotional materials to ensure information is accurate, has scientific relevance to the Country environment, medical accuracy and local legislation are applied to materials.
- Lead, initiate and/or support high impact medical education activities aligned with Disease plan strategies, as example but not limited to Advisory Boards, Stand Alone, Meet the expert sessions
- Conduct, or participate in training programs for internal teams
- Design medical educational program required for internal stakeholder (including MSLs, commercial members, access, PSP team) to support about disease and products required for the proper execution of their duties.
- Conduct the robust selection process in alliance with Human resources and applicable areas to recruit the best talent for the medical affairs position applicable under the position scope
- Lead & promote a team culture based on innovation, accountability, patient centricity & collaboration.
- Contribute proactively in cross-functional scenarios providing medical perspective for the different process and activities.
- Develop & engage strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders including Key opinion leaders, medical groups & associations, Access influencers, government representatives.
- Identify relevant medical events and HCPs applicable for sponsorship according to corporate procedures & Local regulations
- Attend appropriate national and international meetings and congresses to gather intelligence and for personal education
- Lead & Develop Field Medical strategy including MSL Strategy to support disease and product awareness
- Conduct oversight to MSLs activities to guarantee Medical excellence model & Key performance indicators.
- Design & execute launch readiness plan for all new molecules & indications.
- Support the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in alliance with compliance team for the critical medical process including the updates in timely manner according to the corporate requirement.
- Support to PSP coordinator in the proper oversight to vendor in charge of PSP program to guarantee the deliverables and key performance indicators according to the agreements, corporate procedures & local regulations.
- Support PSP Coordinator function to ensure accuracy and quality of patient’s materials under company PSP and collaborate to the best design and implementation plan of educational activities required in the Patient support programs
- Support to Diagnostic lead in the proper oversight to vendor in charge of diagnostic programs to guarantee the deliverables and key performance indicators according to the agreements, corporate procedures & local regulations Lead. execute and monitor the medical affairs budget for Medical activities, PSP & Diagnostic programs
- Collaborate with Patient Organization Manager to the best implementation of educational activities to PAO
- Support the medical information function to ensure timely response to medical information inquiries and collation of requests
- Identify and implement appropriate high-impact medical research local projects
- Collaborating with clinical operations to support the performance of clinical study feasibility and support effective study implementation and ongoing management of trials, including disease registries
- Guarantee that all activities related to your job position comply with applicable external and internal regulations (policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and code of conduct).
- Project, in its relationship with internal or external clients, the image and values Alexion and AZ corporate.
Essential Qualifications
- Medical degree (M.D.), experience in clinical practice and minimum of 3 years in the pharmaceutical or the biotech industry (or experience with biological product).
- Ability to manage all aspects of medical affairs responsibilities on country level
- Ability to critically review current relevant literature, providing relevance to the therapeutic area and product
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both local language and in English
- People management
Preferred Qualifications
- Orphan diseases knowledge/experience a definite plus
- Ph.D./doctoral thesis a definite plus.
- Epidemiologist is a plus.
